BALFRON HERITAGE GROUP

Balfron Heritage Group was founded in 1989 to organise and exhibition of the village’s past to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the building of Ballindalloch Cotton Works in 1790 – an event which transformed this sleepy Stirlingshire hamlet into a bustling village at the heart of the Industrial Revolution.

After the success of the Exhibition in the old Co-operative Drapery in Buchanan Street, the need was seen to continue the heritage Group which has gone from strength to strength over the past fifteen years or so.

In 2003 we celebrated Balfron 700 – the 700th Anniversary of the first documentary appearance of the village on a Charter of Inchaffray Abbey on 3rd October 1303.

We believe in the importance of modern technology in the promotion of Local History and initiated our original website in 2000. To celebrate that event we invited David Reid – the ‘toddler’ who had helped TV Personality Alistair McDonald to cut the tape of our 1990 Exhibition – to launch the Balfron Heritage site.

This renovated version replaced the original in 2005 with much more information and, we hope, a more attractive design.
